A common misconception is that franchising is simply brand licensing. In reality, business-format franchising involves an integrated package of operating methods, training, marketing, support, supply chain, and quality control mechanisms, not just trademark use.

Another misconception is that franchising generates easy income from the first franchise sale. In practice, substantial upfront investment is required before recruitment begins, including legal drafting, manuals, systems, training, and support capacity. Without that investment, early franchisees often become the testing ground for an unfinished model.

It is also wrongly assumed that any successful independent business can franchise.
